Review: 'WAVVES'
'SO BORED'

-  Label: 'YOUNG TURKS'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'March 2009'

Our Rating:
The ascent of WAVVES - aka San Diego resident Nathan Williams - continues. Following Pitchfork acclaim (bah), a well publicised public breakdown at this year's Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona and an excellent sophomore LP (Wavvves - the extra v is important!), we get middle-of-the-album track 'So Bored'.

Taking its cues from the lo-fi production sound that characterises Wavvves (the album), the song is so annoyingly catchy and horrible all at the same time that I'm tempted to smash the CD to pieces with a large hamnmer. It's gonna be perfect for the indie disco and has the same grinding rhythm that made Iggy's 'Raw Power' (the track, not the album) such a joy.

Flipside track 'How Are You?' sounds like a disjointed George Harrison outake; all echo and dischordant guitar. The perfect twisted lullaby for your sick baby.
