Skinny Lister are described as 'alt folk no wave artrock.' It's when genres become so specific - or perhaps, more accurately, so hybridised that they become meaningless. It's not that I don't 'get' why genres are applied, or why genre-straddling or genre-defying acts atempt to define their sounds in such terms, but... well, it can all get a bit daft.
To my ear, 'December' sounds like a fairly straight down the line acoustic / folk song, and I mean this as no criticism. A wistful reflection on Winter, it's pleasant on the ear, being melodic and gentle, and, essentially, fairly traditional in its arrangement and execution.
