Review: 'NEW WINE, THE'
'Bridge EP'

-  Label: 'TNW Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '1st February 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'iTunes Download Only'

Our Rating:
This is a re-release, apparently, despite also being their debut single... the grey area of having a track up on MySpace before officially releasing it, eh? So, a previously available track now accompanied by a a rerecording of another 'older' song plus brace of remixes comprise this EP that heralds the beginning of a transitional period for The New Wine, which will reach its culmination with the release of their forthcoming debut album. Fans can expect 'a more disco-influenced, electronic-crossover' sound.

Ok. Well, the original version of 'Bridge' is choc full of clean 80s guitars and bright synths, an almost perfect replication of soundtrack to many a party populated by people of both sexes with layered, lacquered hair and chinos, cable-knit sweaters with the sleeves rolled, dancing badly and drinking cocktails. Sounds pretty 80s disco to me. The same is essentially true of 'I Had to Tell You.'

Frisvold & Lindbaek's remix of 'Bridge' definitely has a more club-friendly sound than the original, with a more disco beat (albeit a retro one) and the bass much more prominent in the mix. mIGHTY mOUSE's take on the track is much more rooted in 80s synth-driven soul, with a more laid-back groove.

The interpretations are refreshingly different from both the original and one another to make it feel like an EP containing four tracks, rather than two with one thrice over. Whether or not it necessarily represents value for money is another matter....
