Andy Johnson, the lyricist and front man of techno / pop / indie duo Viewer is rather disgruntled. The nanny state, petty bureaucrats, the mass media... these are the enemy, and just so much white noise to him. The dissenting, anti-authoritarian voice of punk grown up, more eloquent and more cynical, Johnson makes his swipes with the lyrical literacy of Jarvis Cocker delivered with Mark E. Smith's sneer over a club-friendly electronic backing. And it works.
Flipside 'Sunrise' continues in a similar vein of social misanthropy, beginning as it does with the line 'hell is a nightclub.' In cleverly juxtaposing form and content - this might justly be considered a 'bangin' choo' - Viewer appear to have forged a sound and style that has true 'crossover' potential, and the YesKing remix further illustrates the breadth of their appeal.
