There's something oddly familiar about Pareto's sound, and no, it isn't because I've heard them before or because they're connected to any band I'm familiar with. As I ponder this, I find I'm spiralling through time and space back to the early 90s, and a time when indie music with big guitars and a dash of teen angst was called 'alternative rock'.
What this actually means, of course, is that over the course of these four tracks, Pareto do a fair line in loud overdriven guitars, meaty powerchords and crashing percussion, marked by loud / soft dynamics, stop / start moments and all providing the backing to fairly nondescript, if mildly irritating and ever so slightly weak, vocals.
It's probably to do with my age, but I do quite like it, regardless.
