In the shape of 'Does Anyone Love me Now?', Blue Roses offer up a pleasant enough folk tune, but it's rather twee, at least until it takes a turn for the interesting in the last 20 seconds when a sweep of shoegaze ambience replaces the picked acoustic guitar.
The live recording of 'Doubtful Comforts' is nicely done and suggests that Blue Rose are, at the very least, a competent live act, but not necessarily an exciting one. Tweeness is again the flavour of 'Anyone Who Knows What Love Is' which suffers from something of a stylistic identity crisis. And suffer it does. The chiming backing and sixties Motown backing are a little shrill to put it mildly. Despite this, somewhat removed from the original and lacks the drama that made the song, and what's more, it doesn't really sit with the other tracks here. Closer 'First Frost Night' is less jarring, at least, but uninspired.

It's a dangerous question to ask, and I'm sure many do love them now, but I'm not amongst them.
