Review: 'VINNY VEGAS'
'LAND OF GIANTS'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'March 2010'

Our Rating:
Vinny Vegas are a Baltimore quintet whose sound on this 5 track EP is hard to pin down.

The prominence of the keyboard means it isn't standard Indie , the constant changes of tempo hint at Prog-Rock while the vocals have a bluesy classic rock quality, like Ben Harper wrestling with Lenny Kravitz.

The problem is, that I get the strong sense that the band themselves don't know precisely what sound they are striving for.

They have plenty of energy and they boldly throw everything onto the burner hoping sparks will fly but nothing really catches light.

My guess is that the abrupt shifts in rhythm and time signature are intended to denote complexity and an epic scale. Unfortunately they create only confusion.

Perhaps they can draw solace from their own line from Watch Out For Mastodons which declares "to succeed, failure is key".
