Review: 'GILES, WINSTON'
'LOVERS'

-  Label: 'Playup Music'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: 'May 2010'

Our Rating:
I can't pretend to find much to admire in this seventies style disco album by libidinous Australian, Winston Giles.

His admission that he has "nothing but love on my mind" (High On A Feeling) and the declarations on the opening track (Harder And Faster) that "I am an animal" and "I am undressing you with my dirty mind" establish immediately that platonic relationships are not uppermost in his list of priorities.

The boasts that the eight songs feature "retro synths, eccentric grooves, slick guitars and heart-felt vocals both delicate and terse" gloss over the fact that these are essentially uninspired dance tracks about shagging. These are interspersed with occasional, but not overly deep, reflections on the whys and wherefores of sexual encounters.

The darker, less celebratory, I Got Your Love is the most interesting thing here but the other tracks just sound like tired re-hashes of plastic disco beats.
