Review: 'O'MEARA, DIARMAID'
'Selfish Bass'

-  Label: 'Gobsmacked Records'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: 'May 2010'

Our Rating:
"Selfish Bass" is the new single by Irish DJ and Producer Diarmaid O'Meara, and it is taken from his album "Structured Noise". Unfortunately, this is being labelled as "techno", and I say unfortunately simply because that label (admittedly it is just a label) has, for this reviewer, negative connotations as pointless, formless, artless and frankly annoying noise. That may be unfair, but Selfish Bass is not in that category anyway.

This does have something more to it. It is quite heavy, and has a satisfyingly dirty, distorted bass sound which sets it apart from the characterless and over-produced fair associated with "techno" music. That it eschewes the use of vocals is a
bonus too, as the music is allowd to speak for itself.

Although not something this reviewer wold seek out to listen to if not reviewing it, this is solid fair.
