Review: 'BATTLE PLANS'
'Sleep Well'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2nd August 2010'

Our Rating:
Bursts of driving power chords alternating with delicate, weaving guitar lines, rolling percussion and melodic yet overtly rock vocals are all features of '78,' the opener on this Manchester quartet's debut EP. It's a dynamic that works to good effect, especially as the changes often come at unexpected times, meaning the listener can never get too comfortable. There's a definite sense of the epic both here and on the other two tracks, which build a simmering tension in the quieter spells before the big sound kicks in. Yes, these are all characteristics of another Manchester band, in the form of the mighty Oceansize.

Still, Battle Plans are no carbon copy, and besides, there's definitely room for a few more neo-prog bands yet - especially ones of this calibre. An exciting debut, that shows a lot of promise.
