This collaboration between vocalist Kristi Callan and grammy-nominated psych-pop / rock act The Jigsaw Seen - neither of whom I have any prior knowledge of - came as rather a pleasant surprise. I was sitting here, sweating to death in my home office, the window of which doesn't open, wondering if 9:30 in the morning was perhaps a bit too early even for me to crack open a cool beer, when I decided to give this a spin.
It's a cool breath of fresh air, a simple, delicate folk-tinged acoustic number with some nice minor chords, subtle string embellishments and a melody that just floats dreamily (and reminds me just a little of early All About Eve). It's accompanied by a cover of Oasis' 'Morning Glory,' given a similarly stripped-back, laid-back treatment that's really quite magical.
My single of the summer so far. Now, about that beer....
