Review: 'Blisted Pearl'
'Blisted Pearl EP'

-  Label: 'Damn You Carl Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '24th May 2010'

Our Rating:
I've never been to Colchester myself, but there's probably a good reason for that. I mean, what has Colchester got to offer? The three guys who comprise Blisted Pearl decided to make their own entertainment in the time-honoured fashion of forming a band, and this self-titled EP marks their recording debut. And it's not bad, not bad at all.

The production is crisp, and the guitars have a good, driving sound across the four tracks of melodic rock. It's perhaps not entirely surprising that in many respects, the 'Blisted Pearl EP' is very much standard fare, and representative of the genre: big guitars, tuneful singing placed comparitively high and clear in the mix, big choruses. However, the anti-war 'Bring Them Home' is a mature and extremely well-realised slow-burner, while 'Ghosts' is also a big, anthemic beast that's definitely well above average. With more releases like this, they could even break out of Colchester.
