Our Rating:
On one hand, it's perhaps not all that surprising that this band's live debut in their home town of Bedford saw them booed off stage. Bedford's hardly the most cosmopolitan of small towns, and Ice Sea Dead People aren't so much of an acquired taste as much as an all-out cacophonous din - which is precisely why I'm absolutely loving this, their debut album.

From the opening barrage of noise that is 'I'm Cat', via the stuttering blast of rapid-fire percussion and buzzsaw guitars of 'My Twin Brother's A Brother' and the choppy assault of 'Grean Tea' to the electrified spasmodic blur that is the single 'Hence: Elvis,' there isn't a moment's respite, every track coming straight on the back of the one before and at 100mph. The listener doesn't get so much a second to catch their breath, or get into the flow of conventional verse/chorus structures or hooks.

'Teeth Union' is an unforgiving, relentless riot of noise, with buzzing bass and shards of treble and salvoes of jerky, angular guitar bouncing off in all directions against spluttering cracks of percussion that assault the listener from all sides. If you want some steadily rhythmic grooves, some catchy choruses and tunes that are easy on the ear, you'll want to steer well clear. But if you like underground US hardcore and art-punk that positively burns with explosive energy and attitude that doesn't even acknowledge the existence of words like 'commercial' 'radio-friendly' 'melodic' or 'singalong,' then you're likely to find Ice, Sea, Dead People wildly exciting, and 'Teeth Union' a breathtakingly exhilarating experience.
