Review: 'LUCID DREAM, THE'
'In Your Eyes E.P.'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '1st November 2010'

Our Rating:
Having previously drawn comparisons to The Jesus and Mary Chain and Suicide, Cumbrian foursome The Lucid Dream have moved into the realms of 60s psychedelia intertwined with the Stone Roses and Spacemen 3. Well, that's the way this new EP is pitched, but in actuality, while the lead track is a shimmering swirly example of classic psych, there are plenty of blasts of noise on the remaining tracks to evidence that they've not forgotten their roots.

'Glue' features multiple explosions of searing guitar noise readily on a par with J&MC or A Place to Bury Strangers, and while 'A Mind at Ease is a Mind at Play' starts out as a looping Black Angels style Doorsian trip, they just can't contain the shrieking bursts of treble for its entirety.

Wrapping things up is the triptastic 'Seye Rouy Ni.' The sharp-eyed may notice that this is 'In Your Eyes' backwards. And that's exactly what it is. It's pretty neat conceptually, but becomes a bit of a drag by the end of its three minutes, equalling a rather disappointing and lazy end to an otherwise strong EP.
