Review: 'MINIATURE DINOSAURS'
'Cold Shoulder'

-  Label: 'Self released'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '11th October 2010'

Our Rating:
What's with the Dinosaur thing at the moment? First it was Dinosaur Pile-Up, and now these guys. It has to be said, they sound nothing like the grungy Leeds act, instead favouring a sound that can perhaps best be described as overtly Scottish indie.

There isn't much of a music scene up in Stirling, it has to be said. However, I do like Stirling: it has some fine pubs and a brilliant second-hand record shop that's a veritable Aladdin's cave of vinyl, and a great live venue, too. Strange, then, that Miniature Dinosaurs, with these things to draw inspiration and influence from, should use the bassline to Britney Spears' 'Toxic' as the starting point for their forthcoming single.

Just as they don't sound like Dinosaur Pile-Up, so 'Cold Shoulder sounds nothing like 'Toxic.' It's got a degree of bounce to it, but that's about it. More Orange Juice than Glasvegas, it's jangly and almost folky in flavour, and above all it's catchy. Not my scene in the slightest, but there's no question that 'Cold Shoulder' has mass appeal and that Miniature Dinosaurs have surely got a very big audience waiting for them.
