Sometimes it's not easy is a sentiment I can identify with, especially when presented with a release like this. 1 Undread's sound defies categorisation. As such, sometimes it's not easy to know where to start from when writing a review. Comparisons and genre assignation is reductive and essentilly futile. The eponymous lead track is a shuffling, minimalist composition that's sparse, yet strangely full on account of the blooping bass that spans a huge array of frequencies. Nic P's vocals are laid back and soulful.
Across the remaining three tracks, 1 Undread demonstrate a rare sonic eclecticism, combining glitchy rhythms and spaced-out synths and dubby basslines to create a kind of dance music that's anything but ordinary or mainstream, yet at the same time, is highly accessible and listenable. 'Got to Go' melds claustrophobic trip-hop to a drum 'n' bass beat. There's an attention to incidentals and minor details that shows a meticulous approach to recording, and lends a real depth and atmosphere the songs.

Without a doubt, one of the more unusual releases to have come my way this year.
