Review: 'Nazca Lines'
'Nazca Lines EP'

-  Label: 'Stressed Sumo Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '31st January 2010'

Our Rating:
Stressed Sumo Records is the newly-established label set up by Therapy? drummer Neil Cooper and Phil Rhodes.

For the label's debut release, they've got an EP by Seattle-based noiseniks Nazka Lines, with production duties covered by Minus the Bear founder Matt Bayles, who's recent production work includes Mastodon, ISIS and Polar Bear Club. With the band citing Refused, At the Drive-In and Fugazi as influences, everything is in place for a pretty kick-ass record.

It doesn't disappoint. 'This Crippled Devil' is a fiery, shouty slab of 90s style post-hardcore, heavy on riffage, based around a repetitive, simple chord sequence played with real aggression. 'This Little Island' is a little more melodic, but is ultimately all about the angst, before closer 'From the Bottom of a Crevasse' hits with both grind and groove. An impressive start, and if it’s a sign of what's to come, both Nazca Lines and Stresed Sumo will be ones to watch in 2011.
