Review: 'SOOL'
'A Touch of Sool'

-  Label: 'Sool Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '1st November 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'SOLE 002'

Our Rating:
Sool are four-piece band featuring New England based producer/engineer/mixer/musician Peter Weiss, who describe themselves as an "experiment pop collective" which I interpret as meaning that they play for fun rather than with any groundbreaking ambitions in mind.

The five tracks here are as hard to classify stylistically as the cover artwork by drummer John Clarke which depicts an ice cream van being touched by the hand (of God?). A 'whatever will be will be' approach appears to be the essence of the band.

Katherine sounds like a spoof of Bowie's Thin White Duke , the gastronomically inclined Pot of Mussels sings about "brussel sprouts frying in the pan" while the liveliest ,and best, track A is Product of Mine which features jerky scat rhythms.

It only lasts a little over 15 minutes and, being the musical equivalent of vanity publishing, it was probably a lot more fun to play than it is to listen to.
