The short version of this review would be one word, "immense" but more details should be provided in order to fully justify that assertion.

Ancients are a new outfit, who only formed as recently as
January 2011 and have joined the ever-growing and consistently ace roster at shelsmusic. While new as a collective force, the band feature past and present members of the excellent Rinoa, crydebris, Mahumodo and shels*, so do have "form" in creating challenging, experimental and often epic rock music - and that is exactly what "Constellations", the first fruit of this collaboration, offers.

It begins with a gentle, sweeping melody but there is always the
expectation that something grander will appear, and after 3 minutes or so, it does, as a harder, rockier guitar sound arrives.

This is no quiet-loud instrumental though, as a spine-tingling
vocal adds an extra layer to the now meaty "post-rock",
before everything fades away leaving the listener pummelled in the best possible way.

This is a brilliant track, losing a mark only for not being long enough. There is a very limited edition EP on the way which I suggest you buy.

In a word, immense.
