Review: 'Shock Project, The'
'Charly'

-  Label: 'AF Music'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '15th February 2011'

Our Rating:
Ok, hands up: who's heard of Curious? No? Funny, me neither. Never mind. The Shock Project have evolved from this now-defunct band, apparently. Big shrug. According to the press release 'The Shock Project are new, are exciting, are fresh' and 'The Shock project is mature, adult music, which moves in the field of good old gothic rock, melodic gloomy Wave, Indie and emotional Progressive Alternative. Driving drums and a dominant bass are the backbone for shimmering guitars and spherical keyboards.'

A spherical keyboard would really be something to behold, and would surely a hell of a lot more interesting than this rather staid, retro-sounding trio of songs that are so forgettable I almost forget to listen while they're playing.

The third and final track, 'Your Virtues' is the strongest of the three, and the one that most ably demonstrates their self-professed goth leanings (remember, the German market isn't nearly so prejudiced against this much-maligned genre as in Britain). Even so, despite some punchy tribal drumming, it's a rather weak imitation of The Chameleons and really isn't all that special.

The only shock here is the complete absence of shock value. If anything, The Disappointing Project might have been a more fitting moniker.
