Review: 'Silver Magic Ships'
'Back To Bad Habits'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '21st March 2011'

Our Rating:
Wearing their musical influences proudly on their sleeves like a raucous and swaggering call to arms is no problem at all for new Manchester band Silver Magic Ships. The 5 piece indie-rockers are proud to shout about loving the likes of Kasabian, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Metallica, Stevie Wonder and Kings Of Leon and in true Mancunian fashion are looking to make friends and influence people with the upcoming release of their debut EP Back To Bad Habits.

Impressively winning the JAR Music Industry Showcase at the Manchester Academy in 2010 (and a slot at the 02 Academy in Islington), the Silver Magic Ships quickly decamped to Moolah Rough Studios to begin recording with the well-respected producers/engineers at Northern Cats - Andy Fletcher (Arctic Monkeys, Reverend & The Makers, Kooks) and Dan Broad (Happy Mondays, Johnny Marr & The Cribs, Black Grape).

The recording sessions were a huge success and the resulting EP Back To Bad Habits is not only an exciting introduction to a talented young band but the soulful guitar lead melodies that dominate the atmosphere on this recording hark back to a golden age of British rock not seen since the early 90s. Opening track Back To The Drawing Board is baggy influenced gem of a tune but this contrasts sublimely with the understated heart-felt honesty of Soul Shines Through and displays great potential for development and songwriting growth.

With a hint of the Stone Roses, Shed Seven, James and Happy Mondays about them, the Silver Magic Ships have managed to breathe new life into the classic Madchester vibe of upbeat anthemic indie-dance by adding their own unique twist into the mix and with the upcoming release of Back To Bad Habits on March 21st through all good digital retailers they will be looking to build on a fantastic 2010 by aiming to sail on the good ship stardom during 2011.
