Review: 'Candle Thieves, The'
'Breathing (Just For You)'

-  Label: 'Carnival Town Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '21st March 2011'

Our Rating:
The Candle Thieves evidently like their parentheses. 'Breathing (Just for You)' is the follow-up to their debut single 'We're All Gonna Die (Have Fun)'. Me, I'm not such a fan. Nor am I a fan of half-arsed pop that's clean-cut and presents itself as 'quirky' but isn't nearly clever enough.

Lyrically, the verses are weak, and the protagonist comes across like some feeble, self-pitying teen in a huff as Scott McEwan sings 'I don't think my words could be more than a joke to you' before spinning into a wet-sounding chorus of autotuned oh-oh-oh-ohs.

Please, stop breathing (not just for me, but ever everyone’s sake, because you're extremely irritating and I'm asking you politely. And put the candles back while you’re at it. Thanks).
