Review: 'Love Inks'
'Blackeye'

-  Label: 'Hell, Yes!'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '28th March 2011'

Our Rating:
The debut single from Texan trio Love Inks is all about simplicity, their raison d'etrre being to produce 'minimalist dream-pop' using electric guitar, bass, drum machine, Moog and the 'simple yet poignant vocals' of Sherry LeBlanc.

On paper, it sound promising, and the two songs here ('Blackeye' is backed with 'Don’t Go', a cut that isn't set to feature on their forthcoming debut album, 'E.S.P.') are suitably succinct, each clocking in at a fraction over the two minute mark.

But the trouble with minimalism is that it demands something more than metre sound to lend it substance, and that certain something is rather lacking here. Lyrically repetitive and atmospherically a little flat, Love Inks simply don't stand up against forebears like Young Marble Giants or latter day purveyors of glacial minimalism The XX.
