Review: 'BUTLER, BEN & MOUSEPAD'
'Formed For Fantasy'

-  Label: 'Loaf Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '13th March 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'LOAF43'

Our Rating:
This is the debut album of a Scottish-German duo on a London based label.

It was recorded in Rotterdam, Berlin and Darmstadt.

Their sound is described as a kind of musical sci-fi citing Philip K. Dick and the prog-rock of Goblin and Magma as inspirations.

The question "Are we nothing more than a soft and warm machine?" is posed by guest Momus in a spoken voice intro; other vocal contributions come from Bobby Birdman (Design) and Vice Cooler (Nagra Fragor? Ok, Folka Mig).

There's not a great variety in the eleven tracks which is fine if you like cheesy 70s style synth-funk but personally, I found the retro sound as tiresome as a game of Space Invaders.
