'I HAVE BEEN WAITING'

-  Label: 'ABBLET'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'May 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'KAY001'

Our Rating:
THE KAYAS are a four piece indie rock band from Shropshire, and this is their first single release. The band comprises: - Ad Edwards on vocals/guitar, Tomos Jarvis drums, Philie Jones bass, and Duane Williams guitar. The band formed in 2007 and have been gigging steadily since then, building their reputation, and on the strength of this single, it’s a fairly mighty reputation indeed.

The opening track ‘I Have Been Waiting’ is a call to arms, with thunderous guitars and a solid rhythm section, the lyrics almost sneered with the same sort of venom that usually only people like John Lydon can pull off, but here it works: - “I have been waiting, for so long, I was working on another song."

There is to my mind a connection with some of The Jam’s work, as this song lays down its challenge: - “Now’s the time to bite, now’s the time to fight.” And like all perfect indie pop songs, this doesn’t waste any words, only two minutes and five seconds long, it’ll have you hitting the replay button time after time.

The other track on the single is an excellent complement to the title track, ‘Gotta Get Out’ is your tower block anthem, where Ad sings of having to get away from inner city life: - “It must be tough living in a council stack.” However, as he goes on to state “The grass is greener on the other side.” This should be a brilliant summer indie smash, and if the album being laid down as I write is anything as good as this, then the band should hit the headlines fairly soon.
