Review: 'CRACKOUT'
'OUT OF OUR MINDS'

-  Label: 'HUT'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '21/7/03'-  Catalogue No: 'HUTCD 170'

Our Rating:
CRACKOUT managed to singularly underwhelm this writer with their previous single "I Am The One", but - as their press release suggests - a lot can happen when a band are out of public commission for a length of time. In Crackout's case, they seem to have been taking elephant-strength anabolic steroids and learning the N.Gallagher/E.Costello-patented method of creative pilfering to suit their own ends.

Time well spent, on the basis of "Out Of Our Minds", methinks. It blurts into life via a riff that tries to weld Blur's "Parklife" wth Costello's "Tokyo Storm Warning" in broad daylight, with extra, charging rhino hammond injected for good measure. Whoomph! It Glasgow kisses you and fucks off again in barely two minutes and you bloody well want more punishment. Ace, in a word.

Unexpected treat, then. All of a sudden, Crackout are jostling their way into the dark horse's stall in time for their Autumn-released album. Bear that in mind.
