Review: 'Lilly, Sara'
'Strawberry Girl'

-  Label: 'Strawberry Girl Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '1st August 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'SGR01'

Our Rating:
Cardiff-born Sara Lilly jacked in her city job to pursue her dream career in music. That certainly takes guts. Alternatively it could be considered completely crackers. I'm going to sit on the fence on that issue, but given that within six hours of release, her self-released debut album hit the Amazon Country Charts top 10, I'd expect she has few regrets.

There's nothing remotely country about this, though. 'Strawberry Girl' has something of a gothy / new wave feel, and it's undeniably catchy. I daresay it's this knack for hooks that got her noticed in the first place, and deservedly so. This makes the not-so trifling matter of the bewilderingly bad, half-baked lyrics in the chorus - 'You're just a strawberry girl / living in your sundae world / like to taste what you've got / but then again / I'd rather not' – unforgivable.
