Review: 'BAcksliders, THe'
'THe BAcksliders from Dallas, Texas'

-  Label: 'Self released'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '19th April 2011'

Our Rating:
Led by husband and wife Chris and Kim Bonner, THe BAcksliders were originally known as The Disasters but changed their name in 2006.

Now they have adopted a curious mix of upper and lower cases which is, I imagine, intended to distinguish them from a now dis-banded Alt.Country group from Athens, Georgia and a current Australian blues band.

If this doesn't work, the unimaginative title of their fourth album, which makes clear their geographical location, should prevent any confusion.

It would be good to report that their music does the rest by establishing a unique identity but, sadly, there's not much in the way of originality on this eleven track album.

The Dallas Observer have, in the past, awarded them the title of Best Hard Rock and Best Blues although on this record I would place them more in the commercial pop category, albeit with classic rock'n'roll roots.

Kim Bonner's raspy voice does at least add a certain energy to a mostly upbeat selection that includes a couple of power ballads.

She is backed by her husband who plays guitar and shares the vocal duties; his brother Jason backs them on bass to keep things in the family.

Unfortunately. the songs let them down as they are mainly vapid soft-rock tunes with predictable themes and uninspired arrangements.

As a result, the only thing that sticks in the memory is the way they write the band name.
