Review: 'Freitas, Nik'
'Saturday Night Underwater'

-  Album: 'Saturday Night Underwater' -  Label: 'Affairs of the Heart'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '6th June 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'HUG013'

Our Rating:
‘Saturday Night Underwater’ sees LA multi-instrumentalist and member of Conor Oberst’s Mystic Valley Band Nik Freitas follow the standard largely upbeat, poppy-tinged acoustic, singer-songwriter template, with only the occasional deviation, such as the laid-back disco-ish beats of ‘Hold that Thought’ and ‘The Light’.

He does manage to pull off a few moments of uplifting pop, as on ‘Middle’ with its string-drenched anthemic chorus, but for the most part, there’s just not much to differentiate Freitas’ music from that of countless others. It’s melodic and inoffensive, but it's equally insipid and unremarkable.

‘Saturday Night Underwater’, Sunday morning sunk without a trace....?
