Review: 'Warehouse Republic'
'Turning Tricks'

-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
According to the blurb, ‘Warehouse Republic are now absorbing young urban producers, rap artists and DJs into a loose, genre-spanning collective’, and ‘Turning Tricks’ is the lead single for a forthcoming collection of works tracing the band’s development from its formation to the present.

Given that they’ve only been around a little over a year, it feels a little premature to me. Anyway, ‘Turning Tricks’ sees Warehouse Republic expand on the 60s and 70s inspired sounds that lie at their roots to incorporate baggy beats and gospel and features a sample from Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State Of Mind’. It’s recorded in extreme stereo that makes for difficult listening.

They call it ‘a bold statement of intent for 2012’. I call it a terrible mess, but I’m willing to let the public decide.
