Review: 'Burn the Sunset'
'Home'

-  Album: 'Home'
-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: '13th February 2012'

Our Rating:
What’s this, Nosnibor’s ritual metal-bashing routine again? No? Can it be true? Yes, of course it can, for while I’ll freely admit to doling out some scathing reviews of numerous metal releases in recent weeks and months, it should be noted that if I’m harsh, I’m also fair, and tend to only really dish out batterings to those bands who’ve delivered weak offerings that are more about melody and haircuts than bringing the noise. The criteria I apply are simple: if it’s got no balls, then it’s no good.

Consequently, I have no grounds to beef about the debut album from Scottish hardcore metal crew Burn the Sunset. ‘Home’ is solid and heavy and relentless. Maybe it’s the fact they hail from a small town – Stirling – where the Winters are cold, long and dark, or maybe they’re just angry by nature, but the eight tracks here cohere to form a document that’s admirably brutal. The songs are fast and furious, with the majority clocking in at under three minutes, and hit like a juggernaut.

The vocals are guttural and the lyrics almost completely unintelligible, although that’s probably for the best. The lyrics are included in the CD booklet but the sound alone conveys relentless rage that doesn’t need to be questioned. The haircuts, however, are another matter altogether....
