Review: 'Therapy?'
'Living in the Shadow of the Terrible Thing'

-  Label: 'Blast Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '23rd January 2011'

Our Rating:
I have to admit having a degree of admiration for Therapy? Having come from the lower rungs of the underground before reaching quite remarkable heights in the early 90s, they blew it all with one terrible album and yet here they are, still crankin’ ‘em out.

After their tenure on A&M came to an end, they sunk into obscurity but refused to be beaten, and while they’re unlikely to grow their fanbase substantially, I guess they probably do ok, and in fairness, they’re produced some decent records in the last decade, long after their heyday, and still cut it as a live band, despite last year’s rather disappointing live release, ‘We’re Here to the End’.

This single’s by no means their strongest work, and lacks the hooks of their best ‘pop’ moments as represented by the likes of ‘Screamager’, ‘Turn’ and ‘Opal Mantra’, and similarly falls short of the gritty intensity of tracks like their breakthrough ‘Teethgrinder’.

Nevertheless, while not great, in the scheme of things it’s far from shit. With some thick guitars and a rattling bassline, it does the intended job of providing a taster for their forthcoming album.
