Review: 'No UFO’s'
'Soft Coast'

-  Album: 'Soft Coast' -  Label: 'Spectrum Spools'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '20th December 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'SP 011'

Our Rating:
This enigmatic instrumental release originally surfaced as a cassette-only release, and consists of fourteen pieces, most of which are so short as to be little more than fragments, sonic notes and doodles. Consequently, there are points during ‘Soft Coast’ where the movements feel unfinished, underdeveloped, flicking from one sound, style or texture to the next without any real depth of exploration.

That said, many of the pieces do slot together and segue into one another quite naturally, and while the fact it’s hard to get a handle on the music before the mood’s changed again can be frustrating, the counterpoint is that nothing goes on for long enough to become wearying. This is, arguably the point: Konrad Jandav’s modus operandi is the collaging of ‘cosmic trash’ to forge a patchwork quilt of soundscapes stands apart from the indulgent, sprawling epics many artists are currently producing, and demonstrates an abundance of ideas that corresponds with the execution.
