Ok, so I was drawn to this band by their name, as it appears to have been lifted from one of William S. Burroughs’ later works, a novella about lemurs on the brink of extinction. It’s a far cry from Naked Lunch but it’s a touching piece that reveals a more human side to the enigmatic author best known for his depictions of drug use and graphic sex and far-out weirdness.
This Connecticut-based four-piece are all about infusing the disparate elements of ‘1960s psychedelica, '70s glam, math rock and post-punk while maintaining the shimmer of classic pop sensibilities’, and while this curiously-titled lo-fi alt-pop ditty doesn’t really reflect the experimentalism the band claim is their core drive, it’s certainly an interesting blend of things, and it really rather listenable.

‘Everything is everything and I’ll never go away,’ goes the chorus line, and there’s a hint of young J Mascis about Jayson Moorse’s vocals. Throughout, a nicely nagging guitar line weaves through a haze of reverb. There’s a sunny simplicity to the song – and the loose playing style – that’s charmingly naïve and really rather appealing, although I still don’t know if they’ve read Burroughs and there’s not a lemur – or a Mugwump – to be found here.
