Review: 'Friedlander, Erik'
'Bonebridge'

-  Album: 'Bonebridge' -  Label: 'Skiptone Records'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '7th June 2012'-  Catalogue No: 'SR008'

Our Rating:
In many ways there’s little noteworthy about this album, recorded by Friedlander and three accomplices. Nine tracks, all jazzy improv stuff with bluegrass elements woven in, I could leave it at that.

But when one of Freidlander’s accomplices is Trevor Dunn, whose extensive credits include Melvins, Fantomas and Secret Chiefs 3 – as if being a founder member of the super-seminal Mr Bungle wasn’t enough, and you note the unusual instrumental choices – Friedlander leads the bass, drum and guitar arrangement with the cello – the whole deal becomes a lot more interesting.

Add to that Friedlander’s excellent – and innovative – playing and the way the musicians gel, you’ve got an album worth exploring.
