Jennifer Left is certainly an unusual – not to mention refreshing – proposition. While her debut single and its flipside (which is also the title track from her forthcoming long-player) mix many elements that have been done to death – specifically folk and pop with a jaunty disposition – Jennifer succeeds in bringing something new to the party.
Perhaps it’s her dark lyrical content, crafted with an eloquently poetic leaning. Or perhaps its her vocal stylings – part Feist, part Florence Welch (only infinitely more subtle and more appealing), part Kate Bush (she’s got the eccentric thing nailed, too – hell, she wrapped an entire venue in brown paper ahead of a performance, which subsequently inspired the artwork for this single). Yet comparisons only go so far, as it’s immediately apparent that Jennifer is a unique talent.
