Have you ever tried listening to an album, and found that it’s halfway through and you’ve not remembered a second of it? To the extent that you begin to wonder if you fell asleep or just zoned put for the last 20 minutes? And so you try again, only to find the same thing happens? There isn’t even a strange sense of déjà vu, because you simply can’t remember anything beyond coming to the realisation that time has just somehow slipped away from you...

Well, on the third time around I briefly noticed the gently babbling jangle of guitars with melodious harmonies of ‘Someone Else’s Words’, and then began to wonder if Burning Shapes’ debut long player had some kind of magical subliminal messages that facilitated some kind of memory freeze or warping of consciousness, or if it was simply because it was so insufferably dull that I was repeatedly slipping into a fugue-like state, staring into nothingness as the tracks played on. I never really reached a conclusion. Ah well, these things happen...
