Review: 'Bleed Electric'
'This Is My Masterpiece (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Hip-Hop' -  Release Date: '31st October 2012'

Our Rating:
Having been spectacularly unimpressed by Bleed Electric’s 2010 ‘So Sick EP’ release, I wasn’t exactly champing at the bit to check out their latest effort, the immensely modest and understatedly titled ‘This is My Masterpiece’.

It’s a sample and stutter-laden affair, driven by a grinding bass – particularly dominant on ‘Pragmatic’, and it’s fair to say that it more or less defines the sound across the six tracks on this EP offering. Sonically, then, it certainly has a degree of appeal, but as with ‘So Sick’, the lyrics are a major stumbling block. Why? Because if you stop a moment to listen to them, you’ll regret it: they’re shite. The worst kind of sexist shite, for that matter, as lines like ‘Big booty shakin’ / place your coochie across my face so I can taste it’.

Anything but a masterpiece.
