Review: 'LA PIRAMIDE DE SANGUE'
'Tebe'

-  Label: 'Boring Machines / Sound Of Cobra'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '5th September 2011'

Our Rating:
The fascination with gory horror movies (or maybe video games) is suggested by the band names of Sound Of Cobra label mates Hell Shovel, Dead Skeletons and Cannibal Movie.

Turin based La Piramide De Sangue (literally 'pyramid of blood') fit right in to this gang on the Berlin based label who co-release this album with Italy's Boring Machines. The limited edition of 500 copies is released on blood red vinyl.

As with those other bands, psychedelic rock is at the heart of a sound which their press release describe as "a mixture of middle eastern melodies, Mediterranean folklore and spiced teas".

What began as a solo project by percussionist and clarinetist Gianni Giublena Rosacroce evolved into the seven piece band you hear on Tebe,

The clarinet gives the exotic core of the sound bolstered by mind expanding instrumentation from two guitars, two basses and synths.

The seven instrumental tracks were recorded live in one take and serve up a fascinating mix of crazed tango, hard driving rock and eccentric jazz.

It peaks with the all guns blazing final track - L'invasione delle Locuste - which features spoken word sample of a man speaking Arabic who doesn't sound like he's offering spiced tea.
