I’ve often described my job as a reviewer as “listening to crap music so you don’t have to”, and I pride myself on my extreme diligence and dedication but I have my limits. Having patiently listened to the first six tracks of Wolfgang Haffner’s ‘Heart of the Matter’ – an exercise in insipid, laid-back blandness – I found myself 30 seconds into an instrumental jazz muzak version of Lionel Richie’s ‘Hello’, at which point the disc came out of the player.
