Review: 'COMANDO, CARLY'
'Everyday 2.0 (single)'

Our Rating:
For this single Carly Comando revisits and slightly extends a piano instrumental she composed to soundtrack a friend's video in 2006 that has been viewed over 23 million times on You Tube.

Noah Kalina photographed himself every day for six years and uploaded the results into a fast montage which gave viewers the dubious pleasure of watching him age six years in under six minutes.

During this period he never smiled for the camera once and this made his staring eyes take on quite a sinister quality. Comando's music helped soften the effect a little and this undoubtedly contributed to making the time-lapse video go viral. Its success meant that it was even spoofed on an episode of The Simpsons.

Her piece is a little bit New Age, a little bit Minimalist - a kind of bridge between the melodic prettiness of Ludovic Einaudi and the mad rush of Phillip Glass. It changes pace frequently, at times abruptly, but has enough momentum to keep the listener engaged throughout.

Carly, who is also one half of Indie duo Slingshot Dakota, plays by ear so, typical of most of her recordings, it was recorded in one take in her home studio in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She admits "I couldn't transcribe it if I tried".

The cover is like a Jandek image - a black and white snapshot taken from her old back yard in Brooklyn NY.

Meanwhile Noah Kalina is still ageing and has now added another six and a half years to his video which this time around is accompanied by a piece of glitchy electronica that makes him look even scarier.
