With comparisons to Florence Welch and major-league reviewers all tripping over themselves to proclaim Liz Lawrence’s brilliance and declare her the next big thing, I really didn’t expect much. By which I actually mean I thought I was going to hate this. But, grudgingly as it may be, I have to admit that with ‘Bedroom Hero’, Liz demonstrates a knack for a catchy folk-pop ditty.
‘Bedroom Hero’ is actually about the life and aspirations of the bedroom songwriter rather than someone who’s hot stuff in the sack. Her voice is pleasingly inoffensive without being bland, and the surging swell of the chorus is a real winning formula. Heroic indeed.
