Review: 'City of Ashes'
'Then There Was a Hand in the Darkness (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '21st January 2013'

Our Rating:
A promising-sounding guitar chug soon merges with a generic emo-tinged rock anthem. The angry throatwork on ‘Beggars and Thieves’ soon dissolves into something no more threatening than a bag of cotton wool, and if ‘Hourglass’ is the strongest track here, it’s still a hybrid of early Linkin Park and You Me at Six (which may be due in part to the production, which comes courtesy of Matt O’Grady, who’s worked with YMAS, amongst others).

So much for their ambitions to make their mark on the alternative rock scene: CoA are little more than one more Lostprophets tribute, a classic example of Kerrang! TV rock by numbers. You can practically hear the haircuts through the speakers.
