Review: 'Nails'
'Obscene Humanity'

-  Genre: 'Thrash Metal' -  Release Date: '28th January 2013'-  Catalogue No: 'Southern Lord'

Our Rating:
Nails are appropriately named: metal, hard and with a sharp point, and this three-track 7” is a blast of gritty guitar overload. It’s a sound that takes me back to the early 90s when I first started seriously listening to John Peel. At the time, Extreme Noise Terror and a host of lesser-known bands cranking out frenetically-paced noise were getting airplay. It was the perfect antidote to the feeble chart pap I heard everywhere else.

Nails really bring the grind: ‘Obscene Humanity’ and ‘Confront Them’ are well shy of the two-minute mark, while the lengthier ‘Lies’ - almost four minutes in duration – slows things down to a megalithic churn of distortion that culminates in a howl of feedback. Just like the good old days...
