Nails are appropriately named: metal, hard and with a sharp point, and this three-track 7” is a blast of gritty guitar overload. It’s a sound that takes me back to the early 90s when I first started seriously listening to John Peel. At the time, Extreme Noise Terror and a host of lesser-known bands cranking out frenetically-paced noise were getting airplay. It was the perfect antidote to the feeble chart pap I heard everywhere else.
Nails really bring the grind: ‘Obscene Humanity’ and ‘Confront Them’ are well shy of the two-minute mark, while the lengthier ‘Lies’ - almost four minutes in duration – slows things down to a megalithic churn of distortion that culminates in a howl of feedback. Just like the good old days...
