Our Rating:
The cartoon cover of this album made me think it was going to be 'Guitar Hero meets Thor' and didn't exactly make me hurry this onto the stereo. I had feared it was going to be identikit modern Punky metal. Never mind the fact that they would struggle to be in the top 10 bands with Voodoo in the name, as I can think of 5 really good bands with voodoo in the name without trying, I was asking what do they add to the ranks of Voodoo bands.

I have to say I was wrong about the band's sound as it is much more old skool metal with pretentions to be sunset strip style sleazy rock in places than conveyor belt punk which is a relief.

Who they do remind me of is Jettblack in that they are also trying to make classic metal while still keeping some modern edge to the sound. The guitars raging on Bullet work pretty well, I like the slower song What I Pay which shows enough diversity to keep things interesting.

Did we really need another song called Mary Jane? Probably not especially as this is the band at their most Motley Poo-aping. Trying to be like Vince Neil is never cool, even if the guitar solo jumps out as the best bit of the song by far. The press release claims it as them at their Guns & Roses-aping best, but I hate that band so much I can't make that comparison. Grrr!!

You'd better have an armful of silver bangles and half a dozen scarves on before you listen to Ferry Song as that is exactly the image it conjures up in my mind - i.e. of someone dressed like that about to make a move on some "Lucky Lady" timing his routine so he can shout in her ear, "we're gonna get it on, we're going to get it onto night" in perfect time with the record. She may well fall about laughing at this, but that doesn't mean he won't strike it lucky. It's still one of the strongest songs on the album for all that.

I'm not sure how memorable much of this album is, but if they tour hard enough they may well build a decent following as there is a never ending appetite for solid decent hard rock bands. This is exactly what they sound like to me: unremarkable but solid. I'm guessing soon enough they will be out on tour with The Voodoo Glow Skulls and Voodoo Johnson.
