'Failing Upwards (EP)'

-  Label: 'Sellout! Music'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '15th February 2013'

Our Rating:
Snasen is Robin Snasen Rengård, began who started his musical career with Norwegian noise / punk act Amulet. He’s since ditched hardcore riffage in favour of electronica, asnd that’s what he’s offering up on his current EP release.

Dense grinding basslines gyrate and throb around sturdy beats and occasional forays into trip-hop. There’s darkwave techno driving the atmospheric, industrial-edged ‘You Have My Soul and I Have your Money’.

It’s intelligently assembled, but with the eastern vocal samples and other incidentals floating around, it’s hardly imaginative and there comes a point – probably around the mid-section pop doodling of ‘Playing the Piano Drunk like a Percussion Instrument until my Fingers begin to Bleed a Bit’ where even lifting a Bukowski title can’t redeem it and it all starts to sound like so much clever dicking around.

Maybe he’d have been better off sticking to the noisy punky stuff.
