Review: 'Curran, Amelia'
'Spectators'

-  Album: 'Spectators' -  Label: 'Blue Rose Records'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '11th February 2013'-  Catalogue No: 'BLU DP 0593'

Our Rating:
The slow-burning acoustic folk of the opener, ‘Years’ carries a neatly-penned narrative and is augmented by a subtle organ off in the background, while the brass that bolsters ‘What Will You be Building’ adds texture, as well as depth and weight to Curran’s words.

She comes on somewhere between Alanis Morrisette and Cheryl Crow on ‘Blackbird on Fire’, but, y’know, we can cut her some slack. Not that ‘Spectators’ is by any stretch the most riveting album I’ve heard all year, or even all day, but there’s no questioning her craftsmaship, and this album is certainly a cut above your standard country-tinged singer-songwriter fare.
