Review: 'Halfrican'
'Hot! Hot! Hot!'

-  Label: 'El Rancho Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '13th April 2013'-  Catalogue No: 'ERR005'

Our Rating:
The title track isn’t a Cure cover – well, I don’t think it is, but it’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on in the haze of reverb and general guitar-driven fracas. It is, however, appropriately titled, because this five tracker positively sizzles. The songs (such as they are) hit like a tsunami of top-end, a frenetic flurry of noise.

And somewhere, underneath it all, are some nifty surf pop songs. A howling garage surf punk racket with zero production – think a demo recording of Wavves covering the Beach Boys– screams from the speakers in a tinnitus-inducing squall of treble. ‘Guillotine’ is a primal roar with tribal percussion and ‘Good Teeth’ has real bite as it wraps up a set that sears the ears with a raw energy – and the fact it’s a cassette release only adds to it’s lo-fi retro cool cred.
