Our Rating:
‘Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri’ is the band’s first (self titled) CD. They've a history of past associations and comprise Texas Terri Laird on vocals, Kevin de Groot on guitar, Stephen ‘Tash’ Reddihough on bass, and Steve Pegrum aka Steve Machine on drums.

The band is united in their love for classic punk such as Iggy & The Stooges, New York Dolls, and The Ramones and it shows. However there are also elements of bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash and even a touch of Hanoi Rocks in this rather wonderful five track CD.

Opening with the punk/rock ‘n’ roll swagger of ‘With My Machines’, the band goes straight into overdrive, this rocks and doesn’t let up, with Texas Terri’s throaty vocals carrying things along masterfully: “Burn it up, burn it up. Come on baby let’s burn it up/ Electric lights and laser beams, electric lights and electric dreams/ I cruise the streets with my machines, I spend my time with my machines.”

The lyrics on this track, as on all tracks on the CD pursue the classic rock ‘n’ roll dreams, all about cruising the streets at night, relationships, and yet more cruising, such as on the rocking ‘Mainline’, which features some excellent guitar that wouldn’t have been out of place on the Banshees' classic debut LP ‘The Scream’.

My favourite track on the CD is ‘Denmark Street’, with is New York Dolls-style riffs and lyrics about being dumped, although Texas Terri does manage to add a twist to the story: this being that when she thought about the split, she thought “Thank God!”

This rather superb five track CD is available fromAngels In Exile online shopand would be a worthy addition to anyone’s record collection. Go on, get a copy and crank the volume up real loud!
