Review: 'SANDLER, JON'
'Take My Time'

-  Label: 'Self-released'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'May 2013'

Our Rating:
Jon Sandler and The Fancy Band have received some attention in the United States during the past year on the strength of their single release ‘Late Night Champ’. Well, the current single ‘Take My Time’ has just been released over here in the UK.

The single starts with a piano riff that sounds a little ‘late night’ jazzy before becoming poppier with bass and horns added to the mix. The lyrics follow the theme of growing up and falling in love:- “I take my time to wash the window, I take my time to get to the phone/ I take my time to understand it, the things I thought I’d never know.”

The only thing that Jon doesn’t appear to take his time with is his girlfriend, hence the kiss-off line: “I won’t take my time with you”.

Whilst the melodies are clever and the lyrics well thought out, the main problem I see with this (solely on the basis of this being a one track CD), is that there is virtually no market in the UK at the present time for this genre.

The publicity blurb states that the single has melodies and vocals reminiscent of Gavin DeGraw and David Gray, but judging by the UK album and single placings of both, they have fallen out of favour. This is a single that, if it had been released ten years ago could have been a sizeable hit in the UK. Unfortunately for Jon, times and styles have changed since then.
